Becoming a Member
Joining a Christian congregation is a two-way street. The person seeking to join and the church receiving this new member both have important responsibilities to fulfill in community. Unlike a social organization or club, the church is founded upon Holy Scripture, God's revealed truth. Therefore, membership in the Lutheran Church especially involves the question, "What do you believe?"
There are four routes to membership at Faith:
- Holy Baptism - Jesus makes members of His Church (Christians) through Baptism. As Lutheran Christians, we follow Jesus' mandate to baptize people of all nations in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). Through baptism, God gives His tremendous gifts: the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38), His Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38), salvation (1 Peter 4:21), and new life as His children (Titus 3:5-7).
- Confirmation - Instruction in the Lutheran faith leading to confirmation takes place in 5th - 8th grade, with Confirmation Sunday held each spring for our 8th grade confirmands. Confirmation instruction for adults is offered several times throughout the year in a class called "Christ Central". As needed, we can also arrange for one-on-one instruction with our pastor.
- Profession of Faith - This option is for those already instructed in the Christian faith, but who are not currently members of the Lutheran Church  Missouri Synod. Often times you would also participate in "Christ Central".
- Transfer of Membership - Members of sister congregations of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod are asked to speak first with their current pastor, explaining the need for their transfer of membership. Since we take congregational membership seriously, we encourage people to take their time when considering a transfer.
