Stewardship

What Is a "Steward"?

As stewards, we belong to the Lord and we receive everything from His hand. Our stewardship of God's gifts includes, but is certainly not limited to, the choices we make with the financial resources with which He blesses us. St. Paul gives us an example of the stewardship of the early Christians as he instructed the Corinthians in collecting a gift for the relief of needy Christians in Jerusalem: "On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income ..." (1 Cor. 16:2). 

Time

You've heard it said, "everyone has the same number of hours in a day". How is it, then, that some people seem to be able to accomplish so much more with their 24 hours? Prioritizing the Lord's gift of time is a skill that blesses us and those we serve. What is most important? Your answer to this question should begin to set your priority. Once you have thought this through, pray the Lord will lead you in ways to begin shifting your schedule to spend more time with the most important things. 

Talent

In 1 Corinthians 12, we learn that we are each created uniquely different and that the special gifts, talents, and interests that we have are given to us for service in the Lord's Kingdom! What things are you especially good at? What are you especially excited about? What are some ways to put these talents and gifts to use in service to the Lord? Treasures

The Lord also blesses us with the resources needed to sustain our bodies and lives. In fact, in most cases, the Lord blesses us with more than what we need for our lives. An important aspect of our Stewardship is in giving away some of what the Lord has given us. Stewardship then becomes and exercise in our faith as we give away things that we ourselves could actually use. As we give it away, we are trusting that the Lord will still see us through without it. We give, not because the Lord has need of our stuff, but because we need the exercise that demonstrates the Lord can be trusted!

As a small part of their Christian Stewardship, members of Faith Lutheran often give what's called an "Offering" or a "Tithe". This is a particular amount of money they have determined to set aside to give to the church asking that the Lord will use it to further His Kingdom.
